"This was a group photo of the riders of the 'Alberta Stampede Company', of Calgary, taken at the Winnipeg Stampede they hosted, in the first week of July, 1926. In 1925, Peter Welsh, renowned Calgary enterpreneur, showman and owner of the legendary jumping horse, 'Bara Ladd', formed "the Alberta Stampede Company", a travelling rodeo complete with chuckwagons, jumping horses, bucking broncs and the best cowboy riders Welsh could recruit. For three seasons, legendary riders from across North America, including Pete Knight, Pete Vandermeer, Frank Sharp, Jimmy Mooney, Earl Thode, Harry Knight, Bob Askins, Paddy Ryan, Josie, 'Tiny' and Alfie Welsh and High River's Watrin Brothers, rode in the Alberta Stampede Company's rodeo performances from Vancouver, British Columbia to Buffalo, New York, and in the eastern cities of Detroit, Columbus, Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. The legendary bucking horse "Midnight" was also featured, along with dozens of the top bucking stock of the day. The Alberta Stampede Company was a sensation, and became the Province's foremost promoter of international sport and goodwill, during the 1920s. Pete Knight is featured in a white shirt, standing on a horse with his hat in his right hand, and is next to his good friend, Frank Sharp (in a dark shirt and standing, also waving his stetson)."
